Smoky Valley Middle School STEM Club students participated in the Science Olympiad Regional Competition at K-State Polytechnic and placed in 6 of their events. Students have prepared for competing in competitions related to biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology.
The events have a balance between requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills, and science applications. Some events are hands on where students construct something in advance, such as the Boomilever or Battery Buggy.
Some events are analyzing materials and conducting investigations like in Crime Busters and Fossils. Other events are tapping into student knowledge of scientific principles like Herpetology and Heredity.
