COVID Vaccine Information

On April 6, 2021, McPherson County Health Department Director Shalei Shea shared the following information to county school nurses:

COVID-19 Vaccination for Students

Kansas has moved to Phase 5 of the vaccination plan, which means individuals aged 16 and older can now be vaccinated against COVID-19. McPherson County Health Department (MCHD) wants to provide direction to parents, guardians and students so you know where to go for the vaccine!

Those who are 16 and 17 years old may only receive Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, as it’s the only brand that has Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for those younger than 18 years of age. MCHD does not expect to have Pfizer doses available, however you may check vaccinefinder.org to find the nearest location who does carry Pfizer. You are also welcomed to call us at MCHD if you need help locating a provider at 620-241-1753.

Those who are 18 years or older may receive any of the three currently available COVID-19 vaccines, Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson/Janssen. You may call MCHD, your primary care provider or local pharmacy to schedule an appointment.

Please check with your student’s school for absence/excuse protocol regarding missing class due to a vaccination appointment.

Once an individual has been fully vaccinated for 2 weeks, they are no longer required to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure. At this time, this exemption lasts for 6 months once the individual has been fully vaccinated for 2 weeks. MCHD recommends continuing mask usage and distancing unless the fully vaccinated individual is only around other fully vaccinated individuals.

Current COVID-19 information and data for McPherson County can be found at mcphersoncountyks.us.
