Smoky Valley USD 400 has a strong technology infrastructure.  Lead by an outstanding technology team, this technology base provides for the district’s internet, server, laptop, and iPad capabilities.

Mike Rose joined the Smoky Valley technology team in 2007.  As the District Technology Director, Mr. Rose oversees the technology in all of the buildings within the district as well as the Smoky Valley Virtual Charter School and VisionTek.  Mr. Rose brings a depth of IT experience with him to Smoky Valley.  Mr. Rose formerly was the Director of Technology at Sterling College.  Prior to his position at Sterling College, he worked in Buhler schools for 10 years.

Laura Leis, Smoky Valley’s Technology Integration and Support Specialist, also provides support through the Laptop Care Unit.  Beyond repair and maintenance, she supports teachers across the district with meaningful technology integration.  This includes professional development, classroom support, and work within PLCs to support curriculum and tech integration.  Laura has been an educator for 15 years with 10 of those years fully immersed in the Tech Rich Classroom environment. She earned her undergrad in Elementary Education from Emporia State University and her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Saint Mary.

The Laptop Care Unit (also known as the LCU) is housed between the middle school and high school and provides support for district staff and students. Two Apple Certified technicians, Josh Smith and Ryan Robinson, repair and maintain district devices.  Furthermore, they assist in the daily operations and maintenance of additional district technologies.

Ryan Robinson began working at USD 400 in 2015 and has a degree in Information Networking and Telecommunications (INT) from Fort Hays State University.  Before coming to USD 400, Ryan was a Printer/Copier service technician for Better Image in Hutchinson, KS for five years, and brings a unique skillset to the LCU as a technician.

Before becoming a technician, Josh Smith has worked for USD 400 schools in a number of roles throughout the years.  Josh has been in the department the longest and completed his Apple Certification in 2008. He also has several years of graphic design experience from both high school and college.

All laptop care and repair is conducted “in house” saving both time and money for all Smoky Valley students and faculty.

Smoky Valley’s Technology team is here to support students and staff in ways to make the learning environment the best it can be.  Do not hesitate to reach out to any of us for support.
